Advanced Analytical Chemistry

The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to analytical instrumentation and provide the student with practical information that they can apply in their research.  The topics will include analog and digital electronics, computer interfacing and data analysis.  The basic concepts of instrumentation will then be applied to some analytical techniques, including electrochemistry, separations, mass spectrometry, and optical spectroscopy.  Emphasis will be on designing experiments, understanding instrumentation, learning how to make meaningful measurements and interpreting results.  At the end of the course, the student will have a better understanding of basic instrumentation and be able to better design analytical experiments.
