Specialization in Biochemistry Research with Prof. Dean Harman

I am a native of Fairfax, VA and a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. I am an environmental chemistry major working in the lab of Prof. Dean Harman. Our research deals with the activation of aromatic compounds towards novel reaction pathways via an electron-rich transition metal complex. Currently, I am studying the Diels-Alder reaction of tungsten complexes of substituted naphthalenes with N-methylmaleimide, which we believe to be occurring by a new mechanism. The reaction products are demetallated and sent to the NIH small molecules database, where they are screened by various labs for biological activity.

Aside from synthetic chemistry, I am interested in teaching and amateur meteorology.
