Specialization in Environmental Chemistry. Research with Prof. Brent Gunnoe

Max has performed research in the Gunnoe research group since the spring of 2008.  His research focuses on developing platinum(II) catalysts for olefin hydroarylation of unactivated substrates.  Olefin hydroarylation is a potentially useful chemical transformation with applications in industrial processes and fine chemical synthesis.  The Gunnoe group has previously developed a platinum catalyst for olefin hydroarylation, and Max is considering the effect that ligand electron donation to platinum has on catalytic activity.  His work involves synthesis and characterization of new complexes, probing catalytic activity toward different substrates, and performing mechanistic and kinetic studies.
