Hyeonjin Lee

I was originally born in South Korea and raised in South Korea, Malaysia, and eventually Mechanicsville, VA where I attended Atlee High School. I am a biochemistry major doing research in the Chemical Engineering department with Dr. Roseanne Ford. My research focuses on the impact of bacterial chemotaxis on their surface attachment pattern. In other words, I study how bacteria’s ability to purposefully direct their movement towards or away from chemicals affect how they attach to surfaces. My research can have implications in areas such as dental plaques and environmental clean ups.

Outside of academia, I enjoy baking and cooking (as many in the Chemistry department and my friends know =D). In the fall, I will attend University of Maryland School of Dental Medicine to eventually treat all those cavities I’ll be creating with my cupcakes ;).
